Rome, Febr. 16, 1538.
Acquisition
Assumingly the letter was part of the Thirty Years war booty from Ermland. It belonged to the De la Gardie collection where it appears in the handwritten catalogue of the early 19th century. Between section 11, "Privilegier och Adelsbref" and section 12, "Quittencer och Reverser" of "Historiska handlingar" Peter Wieselgren adds this note referring to the letter: "11 1/2: Påfvebref. 1538. Bref från påfve Paul III till en Biskop Tideman Gise. Inlagt i en jernbläcksfodral." See also his De la Gardieska Archivet of 1839, vol. 11, p. 193-94.
